Context of Jeremiah 5:10
8They are like well-fed stallions that are wild with desire. They neigh for their neighbors’ wives. 9I will punish them for these things,” declares the Lord. “I will punish this nation. “Go among Jerusalem’s rows of grapevines and destroy them, but don’t destroy all of them. Cut off the branches because they don’t belong to the Lord. 11The nations of Israel and Judah are unfaithful to me,” declares the Lord. 12They lie about the Lord and say, “He doesn’t exist! Nothing bad will happen to us. We won’t experience war or famine.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10Go ye up upon her walls - This is the permission and authority given to the Chaldeans to pillage Jerusalem. Take away her battlements - Some translate נטישות netishoth, branches; others, vines. Destroy the branches, cut down the stem; but do not damage the root. Leave so many of the people that the state may be regenerated. The Septuagint, Syriac, and Arabic, read, "Leave her foundations, for they are the Lord's;" and this agrees with "Destroy, but make…Read the comment

Mocking and misusing the Lord's messengers, filled the measure of their iniquity. God can bring trouble upon us from places and causes very remote. He has mercy in store for his people…Read the comment
