Context of Ezekiel 42:7
5The side rooms on the third story were narrower than those on the first or second stories of the building because the corridors took space away from them. 6The rooms were in three stories. They didn’t have pillars like the pillars in the courtyards. That is why the rooms on the third story were set farther back than those on the first and second stories. There was a wall which ran parallel to the side rooms and the outer courtyard. It ran alongside the side rooms for 87½ feet. 8The row of rooms in the outer courtyard was 87½ feet long. The rooms that faced the temple were 175 feet long. 9These lower side rooms had an entrance on the east side. A person was able to enter the outer courtyard through them.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 7The “wall” here must be one from north to south, fencing off from the outer court the passage along the east side of the chambers, and therefore fifty cubits long.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3-12The priests' rooms were on three levels at the back of the sanctuary. Priests entered from the top level in the inner court (Ezekiel 42:12) and exited at the bottom in the outer court (42:9). These rooms served as transition spaces for the priests' duties as they moved between the inner and outer courts.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-202. Before the length of an hundred cubits--that is, before "the separate place," which was that length (Eze 41:13). He had before spoken of chambers for the officiating priests on the north and south gates of the inner court (Eze 40:44-46). He now returns to take a more exact view of them.Read the comment
