Context of Deuteronomy 34:10
8The Israelites mourned for Moses in the plains of Moab for 30 days. Then the time of mourning for him was over. 9Joshua, son of Nun, was filled with the Spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him. The Israelites obeyed him and did what the Lord had commanded through Moses. There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord dealt with face to face. 11He was the one the Lord sent to do all the miraculous signs and amazing things in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to his whole country. 12Moses used his mighty hand to do all the spectacular and awe-inspiring deeds that were seen by all the Israelites.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10There arose not a prophet, etc. - Among all the succeeding prophets none was found so eminent in all respects nor so highly privileged as Moses; with him God spoke face to face - admitted him to the closest familiarity and greatest friendship with himself. Now all this continued true till the advent of Jesus Christ, of whom Moses said, "A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me;" but how great was this…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10There arose not a prophet since in Israel - Words like these can only have been written some time, but not necessarily a long time, after the death of Moses. They refer more particularly to the wonders performed by the hand of Moses at the exodus and in the desert; and do but re-echo the declaration of God Himself (Numbers 12:6 ff). They may naturally enough be attributed to one of Moses‘ successors, writing perhaps soon after the settlement of the people…Read the comment

This signifies that the law made nothing perfect, He 7:19 It brings men into a wilderness of conviction, but not into the Canaan of rest and settled peace. That honour was reserved for Joshua, our Lord Jesus, of whom Joshua was a type, (and the name is the same,) to do that for us which the law could not do, Ro 8:3. Through him we enter into the spiritual rest of…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10face to face: Moses and the Lord had a very close relationship. There was no need for another person to stand between them. At one time, Aaron and Miriam questioned the leadership of Moses. The Lord strongly corrected them (Numbers 12:8). He reminded them that they were prophets who received messages from God through dreams and visions. Moses was different. God said, “I speak with him face to face, clearly and not in riddles” (12:8). No other prophet in…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1210-12. there arose not a prophet since--In whatever light we view this extraordinary man, the eulogy pronounced in these inspired words will appear just.
