Context of 2 Kings 11:2
1When Ahaziah’s mother, Athaliah, saw that her son was dead, she began to destroy the entire royal family. But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah’s son Joash. She saved him from being killed with the king’s other sons, and in a bedroom she hid him and his nurse from Athaliah. So Joash wasn’t killed 3but was hidden with her in the Lord’s temple for six years while Athaliah ruled the country. 4In the seventh year of Athaliah’s reign, Jehoiada sent for the company commanders of the Carites and the guards and had them come to him in the Lord’s temple. He made an agreement with them, put them under oath in the Lord’s temple, and showed them the king’s son.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2Daughter of - Joram, sister of Ahaziah - It is not likely that Jehosheba was the daughter of Athaliah; she was sister, we find, to Ahaziah the son of Athaliah, but probably by a different mother. The mother of Jehoash was Zibiah of Beer-sheba; see 2 Kings 12:1.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Jehosheba sister of Ahaziah - “Half-sister,” according to Josephus - daughter of Joram, not by Athaliah, but by another wife. She was married to Jehoiada the high priest, and was thus in a position to save and conceal her nephew, Joash, who was only one year old (compare 2 Kings 11:3, 2 Kings 11:21). - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2Jehosheba was likely born to Jehoram by a wife other than Athaliah, making her Ahaziah’s half-sister (see Josephus, Antiquities 9.7.1). The infant Joash was born to Zibiah of Beersheba (2 Chronicles 24:1), possibly a lesser-known wife of Ahaziah. This might have allowed the baby's birth to go unnoticed by Athaliah.Read the comment
