Context of 1 Chronicles 29:27

25The Lord made Solomon extremely powerful, as all Israel could see. The people of Israel gave him royal honor like no king of Israel before him ever had. 26David, son of Jesse, had ruled all Israel. He ruled as king of Israel for 40 years. He ruled for 7 years in Hebron and for 33 in Jerusalem. 28He died at a very old age. His long life was full of wealth and honor. Then his son Solomon succeeded him as king. 29Everything about King David from first to last is written in the records of the seer Samuel, the prophet Nathan, and the seer Gad.

• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-30Verses 26-30 When we read the second book of Samuel, we could scarcely have expected to behold David appear so illustrious in his closing scene. But his repentance had been as remarkable as his sin; and his conduct during his afflictions, and towards the end of his life, appears to have had a good effect on his subjects. Blessed be God, even the chief of sinners may hope for a glorious departure, when brought to repent and flee for refuge to the Saviour's…Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 26-30The Chronicler ends his account of David’s reign with a formal summary, similar to those for all the kings of Israel and Judah (for example, 1 Kings 22:41–50). Like Abraham (Genesis 25:8) and Isaac (Genesis 35:29), David died at an old age with wealth and honor.Read the comment
