17Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan; and Dan, why did he stay with the ships? Asher sat still at the coast of the sea, staying by his landings. 18Zebulun is a people who risked their lives to the death; Naphtali, too, on the heights of the field. "The kings came, they fought; then fought the kings of Canaan, at Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; they got no spoils of silver. 20From heaven the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. 21The torrent Kishon swept them away, the ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon. March on, my soul, with might!

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19The kings came and fought - It is conjectured that Jabin and his confederates had invaded Manasseh, as both Taanach and Megiddo were in that tribe: and that they were discomfited by the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali at Taanach and Megiddo; while Barak defeated Sisera at Mount Tabor. They took no gain of money - They expected much booty in the total rout of the Israelites; but they were defeated, and got no prey; or, if applied to the Israelites, They…Read the comment

He that will set the hearts of other men on fire with the love of Christ, must himself burn with love. Praising God is a work we should awake to, and awake ourselves unto. The several tribes that…Read the comment

The mentions of Taanach and Megiddo are likely poetic references to famous places in the Jezreel Valley, not precise battle sites. The fighting likely happened between Mount Tabor and the lowlands near the Kishon River.Read the comment
