Context of Psalms 88:14
12In those dark places, they do not see your miracles. In that place where people forget everything, they cannot know about the good things that you do. 13But as for me, Lord, I call to you for help. Every morning I pray to you. Lord, why do you throw me out? Why do you turn away from me? 15Since I was young, I have been in pain. I have always been near to death. You have caused bad troubles to frighten me, so that I feel helpless. 16Your anger is too much for me! You are attacking me and destroying me!

How often are good people constrained to ask this question! How often does this language express exactly what is passing in their minds! How difficult, too, it is to answer the question, and to see why that God who has all power, and…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-18Verses 10-18 Departed souls may declare God's faithfulness, justice, and lovingkindness; but deceased bodies can neither receive God's favours in comfort, nor return them in praise. The psalmist resolved to continue in prayer, and the more so, because deliverance did not come speedily. Though our prayers are not soon answered, yet we must not give over praying. The greater our troubles, the more earnest and serious we should be in prayer. Nothing grieves…Read the comment
