Context of Psalms 84:9
7The people become stronger as they travel, until each one meets with God in Zion. 8Lord God Almighty, please listen to my prayer! God of Jacob, hear me! Selah. God, look at our king, the one who protects us like a shield! Take care of the king that you have chosen. 10I would rather be near your temple for one day than have a thousand days anywhere else. I would rather stand near the door of God's temple than live among wicked people. 11The Lord God is like a sun and a shield for his people. He is kind to his people and he gives glory to them. To those who do what is right, he gives every good thing that they need.

Look upon the face of thine anointed - Consider the supplications sent up by him whom thou hast appointed to be Mediator between thee and man - thy Christ. But some apply this to David, to Zerubbabel, to the people of Israel; and each has his reasons.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-12Verses 8-12 In all our addresses to God, we must desire that he would look on Christ, his Anointed One, and accept us for his sake: we must look to Him with faith, and then God will with favour look upon the face of the Anointed: we, without him, dare not show our faces. The psalmist pleads love to God's ordinances.
