Context of Psalms 68:21
19Praise the Lord, as he deserves! Every day he helps us with our troubles. He is the God who keeps us safe! Selah. 20Our God is the God who rescues people. The Almighty Lord saves us from death. He will knock down the heads of his enemies. He will destroy their skulls and their long hair, if they continue to turn against him. 22The Lord says, ‘I will bring my enemies back from Bashan, even from deep down in the sea. 23Then you can wash your feet in their blood. Your dogs can have as much as they want!’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 21The hairy scalp - שער קדקד kodkod sear . Does this mean any thing like the Indian scalping? Or does it refer to a crest on a helmet or headcap? I suppose the latter.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 21But God shall wound the head of his enemies - More properly, “God shall crush the head,” etc. The idea is that of complete destruction, - as, if the head is crushed, life becomes ex tinct. And the hairy scalp - More literally, “the top of the hair.” The Hebrew word used here for “scalp” means the vertex, the top, the crown, as of the head, where the hair “divides itself;” and the idea is properly, “the dividing of…Read the comment
