Context of Psalms 38:15
13But I am like a deaf man who hears nothing. I am like a dumb man who says nothing. 14So I live like a man who cannot hear what people say. I refuse to argue against them. Yes, Lord, I wait for you to help me! I believe that you will answer me, my Lord and my God. 16I have prayed that my enemies will not laugh at me. If I slip and fall down, they will be very happy! 17I will soon fall down to the ground. I have nothing but pain all the time.

As this word is never pronounced by the Jews, and they consider it dreadfully sacred, in reading…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15For in thee, O Lord, do I hope - This shows the reason or ground of his patience. He committed his whole cause to God. He had no doubt that He would protect his character, and that, notwithstanding the reproaches of his enemies, his true character would at last be made to shine forth, so that all men would see that he had been unjustly aspersed. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-22Verses 12-22 Wicked men hate goodness, even when they benefit by it. David, in the complaints he makes of his enemies, seems to refer to Christ. But our enemies do us real mischief only when they drive us from God and our duty. The true believer's trouble will be made useful; he will learn to wait for his God, and will not seek relief from the world or himself. The less we notice the unkindness and injuries that are done us, the more we consult the quiet…Read the comment
