Context of Psalms 32:4
2They may have done something bad, but when the Lord says, ‘Not guilty!’, he has truly blessed them. They are happy because they no longer try to hide their sins. 3When I said nothing to God about my sin, my whole body became weak. I cried all the time because of the pain. In the day and in the night, you punished me very much. It seemed as if the hot sun was taking away my strength. Selah. 5Then I told you about my sins. I did not try to hide the bad things that I had done. I said, ‘I will tell the Lord about the things that I have done against him.’ When I did that, you forgave my sins. Selah. 6Because of this, all your own people should pray to you. They should pray while they still have the chance. Then, when danger comes to them like a river of deep water, they will still be safe.

Commentaries on Psalms 32:4
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4For day and night - I found no relief even at night. The burden was constant, and was insupportable. Thy hand was heavy upon me - Thy hand seemed to press me down. It weighed upon me. See Job 13:21; Psalm 39:10. It was the remembrance of guilt that troubled him, but that seemed to him to be the hand of God. It was God who brought that guilt to his recollection; and God “kept” the recollection of it before his mind, and on his heart and conscience, so that…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 3-7Verses 3-7 It is very difficult to bring sinful man humbly to accept free mercy, with a full confession of his sins and self-condemnation. But the true and only way to peace of conscience, is, to confess our sins, that they may be forgiven; to declare them that we may be justified. Although repentance and confession do not merit the pardon of transgression, they are needful to the real enjoyment of forgiving mercy. And what tongue can tell the happiness…Read the comment
