Context of Proverbs 2:19
17That kind of woman leaves her own husband. She married him when she was young. Now she forgets what she promised to God at the time of her marriage. 18Do not go into her house! If you do, you will be on the road to death. If you follow her, you will arrive at the home of the spirits of dead people. Anybody who visits her will never return. He will never find the way back to a good life. 20If you have wisdom, you will enjoy life, as good people do. You will live as righteous people live. 21Good and honest people will continue to live in our land.

But a man who pleases God will escape from them.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19None that go unto her return again - There are very few instances of prostitutes ever returning to the paths of sobriety and truth; perhaps not one of such as become prostitutes through a natural propensity to debauchery. Among those who have been deceived, debauched, and abandoned, many have been reclaimed; and to such alone penitentiaries may be useful; to the others they may only be incentives to farther sinning. Rakes and debauchees are sometimes…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-22Verses 10-22 If we are truly wise, we shall be careful to avoid all evil company and evil practices. When wisdom has dominion over us, then it not only fills the head, but enters into the heart, and will preserve, both against corruptions within and temptations without. The ways of sin are ways of darkness, uncomfortable and unsafe: what fools are those who leave the plain, pleasant, lightsome paths of uprightness, to walk in such ways! They take pleasure…Read the comment
