Context of Leviticus 15:29
27If another person touches the chair, he becomes unclean. He must wash his clothes and his body. He will be unclean until evening. If another person touches the bed, he will also become unclean. He must wash his clothes and his body. He will be unclean until evening. 28When the woman stops bleeding, she must count seven days. Then she will be clean. On the eighth day, she must take two birds to the door of the Tent of Meeting. They must be doves or pigeons. She must give them to the priest. He will sacrifice one bird for her sin and he will burn the other. 30He will kill them as an atonement to the Lord. Then the woman will be clean. 31The tabernacle is God's house. It is among Israel's people. The priests must keep the people away from anything that makes them unclean. If they are not clean, they will make the Tent of Meeting unclean. So they will die.’

Commentaries on Leviticus 15:29
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 29Two turtles, or two young pigeons - In all these cases moral pollution was ever considered as being less or more present, as even such infirmities sprang from the original defection of man. On these accounts sacrifices must be offered; and in the case of the woman, one of the birds above mentioned must be sacrificed as a sin-offering, the other as a burnt-offering, Leviticus 15:30.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 25-29Normal menstruation did not require any offering from the woman (Leviticus 15:19–24). If a woman had a discharge of blood lasting more than seven days, she needed a cleansing ceremony. This was similar to the one for a man cleansed of a bodily discharge (15:13–15; see also Matthew 9:20–22).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 19-3319. if a woman have an issue--Though this, like the leprosy, might be a natural affection, it was anciently considered contagious and entailed a ceremonial defilement which typified a moral impurity. This ceremonial defilement had to be removed by an appointed method of ceremonial expiation, and the neglect of it subjected any one to the guilt of defiling the tabernacle, and to death as the penalty of profane temerity.Read the comment
