Judges 5:30
30“They are taking valuable things from their enemies. They are sharing the things between them. Each soldier will bring one or two women for himself. Sisera's share will be some beautiful cloth. Yes, he is bringing pieces of valuable cloth, and a beautiful necklace for me! That is why he is so late to return home.”

Context of Judges 5:30
28Sisera's mother looked out from the window of her house. She waited for Sisera to return. She said, “His chariot has taken a long time to come! Why do I not yet hear the sound of his horse's feet?” 29Her wise ladies replied, and she herself thought the same thing: “They are taking valuable things from their enemies. They are sharing the things between them. Each soldier will bring one or two women for himself. Sisera's share will be some beautiful cloth. Yes, he is bringing pieces of valuable cloth, and a beautiful necklace for me! That is why he is so late to return home.” 31I pray that all your enemies will die as Sisera died, Lord! But I pray that those who love you will shine brightly. May they be strong like the sun at dawn.’ After that, there was peace in Israel for 40 years.

But possibly “the necks of the booty” may mean the backs or shoulders (of…Read the comment

Those whose lot is cast in the tent, in a low and narrow sphere, if they serve God according to the powers he has given them, shall not lose their reward. The mother of Sisera looked for his return, not in the least fearing his success. Let us take heed of indulging eager desires towards any temporal good, particularly toward that which cherishes vain-glory, for that was what she here doted on. What a picture does…Read the comment

In these verses a sudden transition is made to the mother of the Canaanite general, and a striking picture is drawn of a mind agitated between hope and fear--impatient of delay, yet anticipating the news of victory and the rewards of rich booty. the lattice--a lattice window, common to the houses in warm countries for the circulation of air.Read the comment
