Context of Job 38:18
16You have not gone to the springs that fill the seas with water. You have not walked on the bottom of the deep seas. 17Nobody has showed you the gates of death. People go through them to that very dark place. You do not understand the great size of the earth. If you know all about that, tell me! 19You do not know where light comes from. You do not know where darkness has its home. 20Can you take them to the places where they belong? Do you know the roads that go there?

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 18Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? - How far the earth extends. To see the force of this, we must remember that the early conception of the earth was that it was a vast plain, and that in the time of Job its limits were unknown. One of the earliest and most obvious inquiries would naturally be, What was the extent of the earth? By what was it bounded? And what was the character of the regions beyond those which were then known? All this was…Read the comment

By the tender mercy of our God, the Day-spring from on high has visited us, to give light to those that sit in darkness, whose hearts are turned to it as clay to the seal, 2Co 4:6.
