Context of Job 31:5
3He sends trouble to people who do wicked things. He punishes those people who do evil things. 4God sees all the things that I do. He carefully watches how I live my life. He must know that I am an honest man. I have never tried to deceive people. 6So he should judge me in a fair way. He should realize that I am not guilty. 7God seems to think that I have not lived in the right way. He may think that I have wanted bad things when they looked nice to me. Or perhaps I have done something else that was wrong.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5If I have walked with vanity - If I have been guilty of idolatry, or the worshipping of a false god: for thus שאו shau, which we here translate vanity, is used Jeremiah 18:15; (compare with Psalm 31:6; Hosea 12:11; and Jonah 2:9;), and it seems evident that the whole of Job's discourse here is a vindication of himself from all idolatrous dispositions and practices.Read the comment

The meaning of Job here is, that he had been true and honest. In his dealings with…Read the comment
