Context of Job 30:22
20I call aloud to you, God, but you do not answer me. When I stand to pray, you only look at me. 21You have become cruel to me. You have used your strength to attack me. You take hold of me and you carry me away, like a strong wind that blows. You use a storm to destroy me. 23I know that you are already taking me to my death. Everyone who lives has to go to that place. 24When someone is weak and in trouble, people do not usually try to hurt him. When someone calls aloud for help, they do not refuse to help him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 22Thou liftest me up to the wind - Thou hast so completely stripped me of all my substance, that I am like chaff lifted up by the wind; or as a straw, the sport of every breeze; and at last carried totally away, being dissipated into particles by the continued agitation.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22Thou liftest me up to the wind - The sense here is, that he was lifted up as stubble is by a tempest, and driven mercilessly along. The figure of riding upon the wind or the whirlwind, is common in Oriental writers, and indeed elsewhere. So Milton says, “They ride the air in whirlwind.” So Addison, speaking of the angel that executes the commands of the Almighty, says, “Rides in the whirlwind, and directs the storm.” Coverdale renders this verse, “In…Read the comment

When inward temptations join with outward calamities, the soul is hurried as in a tempest, and is filled with confusion. But woe be to those who really have God for an enemy! Compared with the awful state of ungodly men, what are all outward, or even inward temporal afflictions? There is something with which Job comforts…Read the comment
