Context of Job 27:17
15Illness will kill any children who continue to live. Their widows will not weep when they are dead. 16Wicked people may have lots of money. They may have silver like heaps of sand. They may have more clothes than they could ever wear. But one day righteous people will wear those clothes. Honest people will share the silver among themselves. 18The houses that wicked people build are not strong. They are as weak as a spider's web, or a shepherd's hut, 19Their riches quickly disappear. They are rich when they go to sleep, but poor when they wake up.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 17The just shall put it on - Money is God's property. "The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord;" and though it may be abused for a time by unrighteous hands, God, in the course of his providence, brings it back to its proper use; and often the righteous possess the inheritance of the wicked.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17The just shall put it on - The righteous shall wear it. It shall pass out of the hands of him who prepared it, into the hands of others. The meaning is, that the wicked, though they become rich, would not live to enjoy their ill-gotten gains. These two verses contain a beautiful illustration of what Dr. Jebb calls the introverted parallelism - where the fourth member answers to the first, and the third to the second: “Though he heap up silver as the dust…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-23Verses 11-23 Job's friends, on the same subject, spoke of the misery of wicked men before death as proportioned to their crimes; Job considered that if it were not so, still the consequences of their death would be dreadful. Job undertook to set this matter in a true light. Death to a godly man, is like a fair gale of wind to convey him to the heavenly country; but, to a wicked man, it is like a storm, that hurries him away to destruction. While he lived…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 11-2311-23. These words are contrary to Job's previous sentiments (see on Job 21:22-33; Job 24:22-25). Job 21:22-33; 24:22-25). They therefore seem to be Job's statement, not so much of his own sentiments, as of what Zophar would have said had he spoken when his turn came (end of the twenty-sixth chapter). So Job stated the friends' opinion (Job 21:17-21; 24:18-21). The objection is, why, if so, does not Job answer Zophar's opinion, as stated by himself? The…Read the comment
