Context of Job 15:25
23The wicked person walks about to look for food. He says, “Where is it?” He knows that he cannot escape from trouble. 24He is afraid and confused. Trouble is ready to attack him, like a king with his army. That happens to the person who turns against God. He thinks that he is greater than Almighty God. 26He is proud enough to attack God. He holds a big shield as he runs to attack God! 27He eats too much and his whole body is very fat.

Commentaries on Job 15:25
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25He stretcheth out his hand against God - While in power he thought himself supreme. He not only did not acknowledge God, by whom kings reign, but stretched out his hand - used his power, not to protect, but to oppress those over whom he had supreme rule; and thus strengthened himself against the Almighty.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 25For he stretcheth out his hand against God - The hand is stretched out for battle. It wields the spear or the sword against an enemy. The idea here is, that the wicked man makes God an adversary. He does not contend with his fellow-man, with fate, with the elements, with evil angels, but with God. His opponent is an Almighty Being, and he cannot prevail against him; compare the notes at Isaiah 27:4. And strengtheneth himself - As an army does that throws…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-35Verses 17-35 Eliphaz maintains that the wicked are certainly miserable: whence he would infer, that the miserable are certainly wicked, and therefore Job was so. But because many of God's people have prospered in this world, it does not therefore follow that those who are crossed and made poor, as Job, are not God's people. Eliphaz shows also that wicked people, particularly oppressors, are subject to continual terror, live very uncomfortably, and perish…Read the comment
