Context of Hosea 10:13
11Ephraim was like a cow that I had taught to stamp on grain. She loved to work for me. But now I will make her do hard work! I will put a heavy yoke on her beautiful neck. Judah will also have to plough the ground. Jacob's descendants must work to dig up the hard ground. 12Be like a farmer who plants good seed. Plant things that are good and right. Then your harvest will be faithful love. Plough the hard ground and prepare it for the Lord to bless you. It is time for you to turn back to the Lord. Then he will bless you with good things, like rain that falls on the ground! But instead, you have planted evil things. So your harvest is terrible trouble. The food that you eat comes from your lies. You trusted in your own strength to save you. You thought that your strong army would keep you safe. 14So you will soon hear the noise of war. Enemies will destroy all your strong buildings. It will be like the time that King Shalman's army destroyed Beth Arbel. In that battle, cruel soldiers killed mothers together with their children. 15The same thing will happen to you, people of Bethel, because of the wicked things that you have done. When the day of your punishment arrives, the king of Israel will surely die.’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13Ye have ploughed wickedness - Ye have labored sinfully. Ye have reaped iniquity - The punishment due to your iniquity. Ye have eaten the fruit of lies - Your false worship and your false gods have brought you into captivity and misery. Because thou didst trust in thy way - Didst confide in thy own counsels, and in thy mighty men, and not in the God who made you.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13Ye have plowed wickedness - They not only did not that which God commanded, but they did the exact contrary. They cultivated wickedness. They broke up their fallow ground, yet to sow, not wheat, but tares. They did not leave it even to grow of itself, although even thus, on the natural soil of the human heart, it yields a plenteous harvest; but they bestowed their labor on it, plowed it, sowed, and as they sowed, so they reaped, an abundant increase of…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 Because God does not desire the death and ruin of sinners, therefore in mercy he desires their chastisement. The children of iniquity still remained in Israel. The enemies would be gathered against them. It is just with God to make those know what hardships mean, who indulge themselves in ease and pleasure. Let them cleanse their hearts from all corrupt affections and lusts, and be a broken and contrite spirit. Let them abound in works of…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1313. reaped iniquity--that is, the fruit of iniquity; as "righteousness" (Ho 10:12) is "the fruit of righteousness" (Job 4:8; Pr 22:8; Ga 6:7, 8). lies--false and spurious worship. trust in thy way--thy perverse way (Is 57:10; Jr 2:23), thy worship of false gods.
