Context of Ezekiel 40:41
39In the entrance room there were four tables, two on each side of the room. They killed the animals for sacrifices on these tables. They were animals for burnt offerings and also for sin offerings and for guilt offerings. 40There were four more tables outside the entrance room of the north gate. Two tables were on each side of the steps at the entrance. So there were eight tables on which they killed animals for sacrifices. Four tables were in the yard outside the entrance. Four tables were inside the entrance room. 42They had used stone to make four tables for the burnt offerings. These tables were 50 centimetres high. Their tops were 75 centimetres square. They put the knives and the other tools that they used to kill the animals on these tables. 43They put the meat for the offerings on the stone tables. There were hooks all around the inside walls of the room. Each hook was 7½ centimetres long.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 38-43The sacrificial animals were killed and prepared in rooms beside the gateways that led into the inner courtyard. This detail shows the main purpose of the new temple. It was a place for sacrifice. The animals had to be washed and cut into pieces before the priests offered them on the altar. These steps prepared the animals for worship. In Ezekiel’s vision, this new temple strongly focuses on sacrifices that atoned for sin. These sacrifices dealt with sin…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-49The arrangements as to the land and the temple are, in many particulars, different from those subsisting before the captivity. There are things in it so improbable physically as to preclude a purely literal interpretation. The general truth seems to hold good that, as Israel served the nations for his rejection of Messiah, so shall they serve him in the person of Messiah, when he shall acknowledge Messiah (Is 60:12; Zec 14:17-19; compare Psa 72:11).
