Context of Ezekiel 40:41
39And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt-offering and the sin-offering and the trespass-offering. 40And on the one side without, as one goeth up to the entry of the gate toward the north, were two tables; and on the other side, which belonged to the porch of the gate, were two tables. Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew the sacrifices. 42And there were four tables for the burnt-offering, of hewn stone, a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half broad, and one cubit high; whereupon they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt-offering and the sacrifice. 43And the hooks, a handbreadth long, were fastened within round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the oblation.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 38-43The sacrificial animals were killed and prepared in rooms beside the gateways that led into the inner courtyard. This detail shows the main purpose of the new temple. It was a place for sacrifice. The animals had to be washed and cut into pieces before the priests offered them on the altar. These steps prepared the animals for worship. In Ezekiel’s vision, this new temple strongly focuses on sacrifices that atoned for sin. These sacrifices dealt with sin…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-49The arrangements as to the land and the temple are, in many particulars, different from those subsisting before the captivity. There are things in it so improbable physically as to preclude a purely literal interpretation. The general truth seems to hold good that, as Israel served the nations for his rejection of Messiah, so shall they serve him in the person of Messiah, when he shall acknowledge Messiah (Is 60:12; Zec 14:17-19; compare Psa 72:11).
