Context of 1 Kings 21:14
12They chose a day for the people to fast. They put Naboth in a seat where the people could see him. 13Then two wicked men came and they sat near to him. They accused Naboth so that the people could all hear them. They said, ‘Naboth has insulted God and the king.’ So the people took him outside the city. They threw stones at him until he was dead. Then the city's leaders sent a message to Jezebel. They told her, ‘The people have killed Naboth with stones.’ 15When Jezebel heard that Naboth was dead, she said to Ahab, ‘Get up from your bed! Go to Jezreel and take Naboth's vineyard for yourself. He refused to sell it to you when he was alive. But now he is dead.’ 16When Ahab knew that Naboth was dead, he got up from his bed. He went to Naboth's vineyard to take it for himself.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-16Verses 5-16 When, instead of a help meet, a man has an agent for Satan, in the form of an artful, unprincipled, yet beloved wife, fatal effects may be expected. Never were more wicked orders given by any prince, than those Jezebel sent to the rulers of Jezreel. Naboth must be murdered under colour of religion. There is no wickedness so vile, so horrid, but religion has sometimes been made a cover for it. Also, it must be done under colour of justice, and…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-14Like Achan (Joshua 7:24–26), Naboth’s sons were killed at the same time (2 Kings 9:26). This was to stop the property from going to them. The charge led to a state execution (Deuteronomy 13:10–11; 17:5). With no male heirs left, Ahab used his royal right to take the property (1 Samuel 8:14).Read the comment
