Context of Mark 8:29
27And Jesus went forth and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea-Philippi. And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am? 28And they answered him, saying, John the baptist; and others, Elias; but others, One of the prophets. And he asked them, But ye, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering says to him, Thou art the Christ. 30And he charged them straitly, in order that they should tell no man about him. 31And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and of the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise [again].

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 27-33Verses 27-33 These things are written, that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Now the disciples are convinced that Jesus is the Christ; they may bear to hear of his sufferings, of which Christ here begins to give them notice. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 29-30Who do you say I am?: In the Greek text, the word you is emphatic. Peter spoke for the group, saying, You are the Christ. Peter’s confession was correct, as the command not to tell anyone about him shows (see 3:11–12; see also 1:1; 14:61–62; Matthew 16:17).Read the comment
