Context of Luke 23:29
27And a great multitude of the people, and of women who wailed and lamented him, followed him. 28And Jesus turning round to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me, but weep over yourselves and over your children; for behold, days are coming in which they will say, Blessed [are] the barren, and wombs that have not borne, and breasts that have not given suck. 30Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us; and to the hills, Cover us: 31for if these things are done in the green tree, what shall take place in the dry?

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-31Verses 26-31 We have here the blessed Jesus, the Lamb of God, led as a lamb to the slaughter, to the sacrifice. Though many reproached and reviled him, yet some pitied him. But the death of Christ was his victory and triumph over his enemies: it was our deliverance, the purchase of eternal life for us.
