Context of Job 11:9
7Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty to perfection? 8[It is as] the heights of heaven; what wilt thou do? deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know? It is morally certain that the prevailing ideas were very limited, and that a small part of the earth…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-12Verses 7-12 Zophar speaks well concerning God and his greatness and glory, concerning man and his vanity and folly. Man is a vain creature; empty, so the word is. Yet he is a proud creature, and self-conceited. He would be wise, would be thought so, though he…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-20FIRST SERIES. 2. Zophar assails Job for his empty words, and indirectly, the two friends, for their weak reply. Taciturnity is highly prized among Orientals (Pr 10:8, 19).Read the comment
