Context of Job 11:14
12Yet a senseless man will make bold, though man be born [like] the foal of a wild ass. 13If thou prepare thy heart and stretch out thy hands toward him, If thou put far away the iniquity which is in thy hand, and let not wrong dwell in thy tents; 15Surely then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot, and thou shalt be stedfast and shalt not fear: 16For thou shalt forget misery; as waters that are passed away shalt thou remember it;

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14If iniquity be in thine hand - If you have in your possession anything that has been unjustly obtained. If you have oppressed the poor and the fatherless, and have what properly belongs to them, let it be restored. This is the obvious duty of one who comes to God to implore his favor; compare Luke 19:8.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13-20Verses 13-20 Zophar exhorts Job to repentance, and gives him encouragement, yet mixed with hard thoughts of him. He thought that worldly prosperity was always the lot of the righteous, and that Job was to be deemed a hypocrite unless his prosperity was restored. Then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; that is, thou mayst come boldly to the throne of grace, and not with the terror and amazement expressed in ch. 9:34. If we are looked upon in the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-14Zophar outlined three conditions for restoration (11:15): Direct your heart. This is an internal action beyond mere ceremony. Lift up your hands. This is a symbolic gesture of prayer, appeal, or act of surrendering (Exodus 9:29; Proverbs 1:24; Isaiah 1:15). Put away the iniquity. This is not through sacrifice and regret, but by quitting the sin in view (compare Hebrews 11:6; James 4:8; 5:16).Read the comment
