Context of Isaiah 38:3
1In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Set thy house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. 2And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to Jehovah, and said, Ah, Jehovah, remember, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept much. 4And the word of Jehovah came to Isaiah, saying, 5Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee - The object which Hezekiah desired was evidently that his life might be spared, and that he might not be suddenly cut off. He therefore makes mention of the former course of his life, not with ostentation, or as a ground of his acceptance or justification, but as a reason why his limb should not be cut off. He had not lived as many of the kings of Israel had done. He had not been a patron of idolatry. He had…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3I have walked before You faithfully: Hezekiah’s heart (his inner attitude and will) was right with the Lord for most of his reign (2 Kings 18:1–5). However, Hezekiah showed weakness when he relied on Egypt and did not act faithfully (Isaiah 31:1–9).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 33. He mentions his past religious consistency, not as a boast or a ground for justification; but according to the Old Testament dispensation, wherein temporal rewards (as long life, &c., Ex 20:12) followed legal obedience, he makes his religious conduct a plea for asking the prolongation of his life. walked--Life is a journey; the pious "walk with God" (Ge 5:24; 1Ki 9:4). perfect--sincere; not absolutely perfect, but aiming towards it (Mt 5:45)…Read the comment
