Context of Ezekiel 20:18
16because they rejected mine ordinances and walked not in my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. 17But mine eye spared them so as not to destroy them, neither did I make a full end of them in the wilderness. And I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk not in the statutes of your fathers, neither keep their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols. 19I [am] Jehovah your God: walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them; 20and hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] Jehovah your God.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-21Each generation of Israelites rebelled against the Lord. They refused to obey the commandments he gave them. Each time, the Lord warned that he would pour out his fury (his strong anger) on them (Ezekiel 20:8, 13, 21). But he held back his judgment. He did this for the honor of his name.
