Context of Exodus 7:8
6And Moses and Aaron did as Jehovah had commanded them: so did they. 7And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 9When Pharaoh shall speak to you, saying, Do a miracle for yourselves, — then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy staff and cast [it] before Pharaoh — it will become a serpent. 10And Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and did so, as Jehovah had commanded; and Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh, and before his bondmen, and it became a serpent.

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-251. the Lord said unto Moses--He is here encouraged to wait again on the king--not, however, as formerly, in the attitude of a humble suppliant, but now armed with credentials as God's ambassador, and to make his demand in a tone and manner which no earthly monarch or court ever witnessed. I have made thee a god--"made," that is, set, appointed; "a god"; that is, he was to act in this business as God's representative, to act and speak in His name and to…Read the comment
