32when they went into the tent of meeting, and when they drew near to the altar, they washed; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. 33And he set up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the curtain of the gate of the court. And so Moses finished the work. And the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses could not enter into the tent of meeting, for the cloud abode on it, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. 36And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel journeyed in all their journeys.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 34Then a cloud covered the tent - Thus God gave his approbation of the work; and as this was visible, so it was a sign to all the people that Jehovah was among them. And the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle - How this was manifested we cannot tell; it was probably by some light or brightness which was insufferable to the sight, for Moses himself could not enter in because of the cloud and the glory, Exodus 40:35. Precisely the same happened when…Read the comment

It guided the camp of Israel through the wilderness. While the cloud rested on the tabernacle, they rested; when it removed, they followed it. The glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 34-38The most important part of the exodus happened when the glory of the Lord filled the Tent of Meeting. From the beginning, God’s purpose was not only to rescue Israel from slavery. He wanted to bring them into a close relationship with himself. Their greatest need was to know God personally. Without God’s presence, the promised land would not truly be a place of blessing. But now it would be different. The same glory that appeared on Mount Sinai was now…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3434. a cloud--literally, "The cloud," the mystic cloud which was the well-known symbol of the Divine Presence. After remaining at a great distance from them on the summit of the mount, it appeared to be in motion; and if many among them had a secret misgiving about the issue, how the fainting heart would revive, the interest of the moment intensely increase, and the tide of joy swell in every bosom, when that symbolic cloud was seen slowly and majestically…Read the comment
