Context of Exodus 29:40
38And this is what thou shalt offer upon the altar — two lambs of the first year, day by day continually. 39The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer between the two evenings. And with the one lamb a tenth part of wheaten flour mingled with beaten oil, a fourth part of a hin; and a drink-offering, a fourth part of a hin of wine. 41And the second lamb shalt thou offer between the two evenings; as the oblation in the morning, and as its drink-offering shalt thou offer with this, for a sweet odour, an offering by fire to Jehovah. 42It shall be a continual burnt-offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before Jehovah, where I will meet with you, to speak there with thee.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 40A tenth deal of flour - Deal signifies a part, from the Anglo-Saxon word, to divide; hence, a part, a portion taken from the whole. From Numbers 28:5; we learn that this tenth deal was the tenth part of an ephah, which constituted what is called an omer. See Exodus 16:36; and see Clarke's note on Exodus 16:16; of the same chapter, where an account is given of different measures of capacity among the Hebrews. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 38-46Verses 38-46 A lamb was to be offered upon the altar every morning, and a lamb every evening. This typified the continual intercession which Christ ever lives to make for his church. Though he offered himself but once for all, that one offering thus becomes a continual offering. This also teaches us to offer to God the spiritual sacrifices of prayer and praise every day, morning and evening. Our daily devotions are the most needful of our daily works, and…Read the comment
