Context of Psalms 31:23
21Blessed be the Lord, for he has wondrously shown his faithful love to me in a city under siege. 22In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to you for help. Love the Lord, all his faithful ones. The Lord protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. 24Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord.

Commentaries on Psalms 31:23
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 23O love the Lord, all ye his saints - It is only the saints that can love God, as they only are made partakers of the Divine nature. Holy spirits can love God, who is the fountain of their holiness; and the saints should love him. Preserveth the faithful - Those who, being filled with the love of God, bring forth the fruits of that love - universal obedience to the will of God; for to such persons his commands are not grievous, their duty is their delight…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 23O love the Lord, all ye his saints - This is the “application” of all the truths suggested in the psalm. The experience of the psalmist had shown the wisdom of trusting in God in times of danger and trouble, and had laid the foundation for a proper exhortation to others to imitate his example; an argument why all the people of God should love him, and should be of good courage. The reason here assigned for their loving the Lord is, that he preserves those…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 19-24Verses 19-24 Instead of yielding to impatience or despondency under our troubles, we should turn our thoughts to the goodness of the Lord towards those who fear and trust in Him. All comes to sinners through the wondrous gift of the only-begotten Son of God, to be the atonement for their sins. Let not any yield to unbelief, or think, under discouraging circumstances, that they are cut off from before the eyes of the Lord, and left to the pride of men…Read the comment
