Context of Mark 9:6
4Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it’s good for us to be here. Let’s set up three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — because he did not know what to say, since they were terrified. 7A cloud appeared, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son; listen to him!” 8Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-6The idea to put up three shelters as memorials treats Moses, Elijah, and Jesus as equals (see Leviticus 23:33–43; Numbers 29:12–34). But this idea ignored Peter’s earlier confession that Jesus is the Messiah (Mark 8:29). It also ignored that only Jesus had been transfigured (his appearance changed and showed his glory, 9:2–3).Read the comment
