Context of Joshua 19:30
28Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, as far as greater Sidon. 29The boundary then turned to Ramah as far as the fortified city of Tyre; it turned back to Hosah and ended at the Mediterranean Sea, including Mahalab, Achzib, Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob — twenty-two cities, with their settlements. 31This was the inheritance of the tribe of Asher’s descendants by their clans, these cities with their settlements. 32The sixth lot came out for Naphtali’s descendants by their clans.

Commentaries on Joshua 19:30
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30Twenty and two cities - There are nearly thirty cities in the above enumeration instead of twenty-two, but probably several are mentioned that were but frontier towns, and that did not belong to this tribe, their border only passing by such cities; and on this account, though they are named, yet they do not enter into the enumeration in this place. Perhaps some of the villages are named as well as the cities.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 28-30Verses 28-30 These verses refer to the northern portion of the territory of Asher, on the Phoenician frontier. Some names may have dropped out of the text, the number Joshua 19:30 not tallying with the catalogue. Ramah still retains its ancient name, and lies about twelve miles southeast of Tyre. Achzib is the modern “Zib,” on the coast, eight or nine miles north of Acre.Read the comment

He was content to be unfixed, till he saw them all placed, and herein is an example to all in public places, to prefer the common welfare before private advantage. Those who labour most to do good to others, seek an inheritance in the Canaan above: but it will be soon enough to enter thereon, when they have done all the service to their brethren of…Read the comment
