Context of Isaiah 63:8
6I crushed nations in my anger; I made them drunk with my wrath and poured out their blood on the ground. 7I will make known the Lord’s faithful love and the Lord’s praiseworthy acts, because of all the Lord has done for us — even the many good things he has done for the house of Israel, which he did for them based on his compassion and the abundance of his faithful love. He said, “They are indeed my people, children who will not be disloyal,” and he became their Savior. 9In all their suffering, he suffered, and the angel of his presence saved them. He redeemed them because of his love and compassion; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of the past. 10But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he became their enemy and fought against them.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8So he was their Savior. In all their affliction "And he became their Savior in all their distress" - I have followed the translation of the Septuagint in the latter part of the eighth, and the former part of the ninth verse; which agrees with the present text, a little differently divided as to thee members of the sentence. They read מכל miccol, out of all, instead of בכל bechol, in all, which makes no difference in the sense; and צר tsar they understand…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-14Verses 7-14 The latter part of this chapter, and the whole of the next, seem to express the prayers of the Jews on their conversation. They acknowledge God's great mercies and favours to their nation. They confess their wickedness and hardness of heart; they entreat his forgiveness, and deplore the miserable condition under which they have so long suffered. The only-begotten Son of the Father became the Angel or Messenger of his love; thus he redeemed and…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. he--Jehovah "said," that is, thought, in choosing them as His covenant-people; so "said" (Psa 95:10). Not that God was ignorant that the Jews would not keep faith with Him; but God is here said, according to human modes of thought to say within Himself what He might naturally have expected, as the result of His goodness to the Jews; thus the enormity of their unnatural perversity is the more vividly set forth. lie--prove false to Me (compare Psa…Read the comment
