Context of Genesis 7:14

12and the rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. 13On that same day Noah and his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, entered the ark, along with Noah’s wife and his three sons’ wives. They entered it with all the wildlife according to their kinds, all livestock according to their kinds, all the creatures that crawl on the earth according to their kinds, every flying creature — all the birds and every winged creature — according to their kinds. 15Two of every creature that has the breath of life in it came to Noah and entered the ark. 16Those that entered, male and female of every creature, entered just as God had commanded him. Then the Lord shut him in.

The Flood The date is here given, at which the flood commenced and the entrance into the ark was completed. “In seven days.” On the seventh day from the command. “In the second month.” The primeval year commenced about the autumnal equinox; we may say, on the nearest new moon. The rains began about a month or six weeks after the equinox, and, consequently, not far from the seventeenth of the second month. “All the fountains of the…Read the comment

God shut the door, to secure him and keep him safe in the ark; also to keep all others for…Read the comment
