Context of Ezekiel 4:11
9“Also take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt. Put them in a single container and make them into bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the number of days you lie on your side, 390 days. 10The food you eat each day will weigh eight ounces; you will eat it at set times. You will also drink a ration of water, a sixth of a gallon, which you will drink at set times. 12You will eat it as you would a barley cake and bake it over dried human excrement in their sight.” 13The Lord said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their bread — ceremonially unclean — among the nations where I will banish them.”

The measure of the hin is variously estimated by Jewish writers. The sixth part of a hin will be according to one estimate about 610ths, according to another 910ths of a pint. The lesser estimate is more suitable here.Read the comment

Thus was figured the extremity to which the Jews were to be reduced during the siege and captivity. Ezekiel does not plead, Lord, from my youth I have been brought up delicately, and never used to any thing like this; but that he had been brought up…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9-17The near-starvation diet of eight ounces of food and a jar of water each day represents siege rations. This reflects a desperate situation where there was not enough of any one type of grain to make a whole loaf.Read the comment
