Context of Daniel 1:2
1In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it. The Lord handed King Jehoiakim of Judah over to him, along with some of the vessels from the house of God. Nebuchadnezzar carried them to the land of Babylon, to the house of his god, and put the vessels in the treasury of his god. 3The king ordered Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the Israelites from the royal family and from the nobility — 4young men without any physical defect, good-looking, suitable for instruction in all wisdom, knowledgeable, perceptive, and capable of serving in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the Chaldean language and literature.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2Part of the vessels of the house of God - He took the richest and finest of them for the service of his god Bel, and left what were necessary for carrying on the public worship of Jehovah, (for he did not attempt to alter the civil or religious constitution of Judea); for leaving Jehoiakim on the throne, he only laid the land under tribute. The sacred objects were dedicated for use in the temple of God built…Read the comment

Subsequently all were taken away and were restored under Cyrus (Ezr 1:7). his god--Bel. His temple, as was often the case among the heathen, was made "treasure house" of…Read the comment
