Context of 2 Samuel 7:21
19What you have done so far was a little thing to you, Lord God, for you have also spoken about your servant’s house in the distant future. And this is a revelation for mankind, Lord God. 20What more can David say to you? You know your servant, Lord God. Because of your word and according to your will, you have revealed all these great things to your servant. 22This is why you are great, Lord God. There is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, as all we have heard confirms. 23And who is like your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for himself, to make a name for himself, and to perform for them great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before your people you redeemed for yourself from Egypt.

Commentaries on 2 Samuel 7:21
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 18-29Verses 18-29 David's prayer is full of the breathings of devout affection toward God. He had low thoughts of his own merits. All we have, must be looked upon as Divine gifts. He speaks very highly and honourably of the Lord's favours to him. Considering what the character and condition of man is, we may be amazed that God should deal with him as he does. The promise of Christ includes all; if the Lord God be ours, what more can we ask, or think of? Ep…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 21David achieved great things because of God's will, not his own ambition. You have accomplished: David spoke about what God promised to do for his descendants over many generations as if it had already happened.
