Context of Job 5:22
20In famine He will redeem you from death, and in battle from the stroke of the sword. 21You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and will not fear havoc when it comes. You will laugh at destruction and famine, and need not fear the beasts of the earth. 23For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you. 24You will know that your tent is secure, and find nothing amiss when inspecting your home.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 22At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh - This most forcibly expresses the strongest security, and confidence in that security. "In the desolation of Sihon, and in the famine of the desert, thou shalt laugh; and of the camps of Og, who is compared to a wild beast of the earth, thou shalt not be afraid." - Targum.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh - That is thou shalt be perfectly safe and happy. They shall not come upon thee; and when they approach with threatening aspect, thou shalt smile with conscious security. The word here rendered famine (כפן kâphân ) is an unusual word, and differs from that occurring in Job 5:20, רעב râ‛âb This word is derived from כפן kâphan - to languish, to pine from hunger and thirst. It then means the languid and feeble…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-27Verses 17-27 Eliphaz gives to Job a word of caution and exhortation: Despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty. Call it a chastening, which comes from the Father's love, and is for the child's good; and notice it as a messenger from Heaven. Eliphaz also encourages Job to submit to his condition. A good man is happy though he be afflicted, for he has not lost his enjoyment of God, nor his title to heaven; nay, he is happy because he is afflicted…Read the comment

This list reflects the blessings and curses of the covenant God gave to Moses (Leviticus 26; Deuteronomy 28). Eliphaz believed that people in a right relationship with God would avoid: Famine, meaning starving. (Job 5:20, 22; see Leviticus 26:4–5, 10; Deuteronomy 28:4–6, 8, 11–12). - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2222. famine thou shalt laugh--Not, in spite of destruction and famine, which is true (Ha 3:17, 18), though not the truth meant by Eliphaz, but because those calamities shall not come upon thee. A different Hebrew word from that in Job 5:20; there, famine in general; here, the languid state of those wanting proper nutriment [Barnes].Read the comment
