Context of 1 Chronicles 28:5
3but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My Name, because you are a man of war who has shed blood.’ 4Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel. And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. 6And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father. 7I will establish his kingdom forever, if he resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-6the LORD...chose me...to be king over Israel forever: God's selection of David started with Judah (Genesis 49:8–12), reached its peak with David (1 Samuel 16:1–13), and continued with Solomon (1 Chronicles 28:5–6, 10). All later kings ruled because of God's promise to David.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 4-54-5. he hath chosen Solomon--The spirit of David's statement is this:--It was not my ambition, my valor, or my merit that led to the enthronement of myself and family; it was the grace of God which chose the tribe, the family, the person--myself in the first instance, and now Solomon, to whom, as the Lord's anointed, you are all bound to submit. Like that of Christ, of whom he was a type, the appointment of Solomon to the kingdom above all his brethren…Read the comment
