Context of Luke 19:25

23then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest? 24And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds. And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds. 26I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him. 27But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds - This whole verse is omitted by the Codex Bezae, a few others, and some copies of the Itala. It is probably an observation that some person made while our Lord was delivering the parable, with a design to correct him in the distribution: as if he had said, "Why give the mina to that person? he has got ten already; give it to one of those who has fewer."Read the comment

He hath … - This was probably an observation made by some of the bystanders, as if surprised at such a decision. “He has already ten pounds. Why take away this one, and add to what he already possesses? Why should his property be increased at the expense of this man, who has but one pound?” The answer to this is given in the following verse; that every one that hath, to him shall be given; every man…Read the comment
• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-27Verses 11-27 This parable is like that of the talents, Mt 25. Those that are called to Christ, he furnishes with gifts needful for their business; and from those to whom he gives power, he expects service. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal, 1Co 12:7. And as every one has received the gift, so let him minister the same, 1Pe 4:10. The account required, resembles that in the parable of the talents; and the punishment of…Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11-27This parable has two main purposes: To teach stewardship. This means managing gifts and resources well while the man of noble birth (Jesus) is away (compare Matthew 25:14–30). To correct the belief that the kingdom of God would start immediately when Jesus entered Jerusalem. Most Jews in the time of Jesus expected that when the Messiah (the Christ) came, God’s kingdom would be established physically on earth, with Jerusalem at its center (see Isaiah…Read the comment
