Context of Psalms 10:2
1Why do You stand far away, O Lord? Why do You hide [Yourself, veiling Your eyes] in times of trouble? In pride and arrogance the wicked hotly pursue and persecute the afflicted; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised. 3For the wicked boasts and sings the praises of his heart’s desire, And the greedy man curses and spurns [and even despises] the Lord. 4The wicked, in the haughtiness of his face, will not seek nor inquire for Him; All his thoughts are, “There is no God [so there is no accountability or punishment].”

Commentaries on Psalms 10:2
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2The wicked in his pride - On no principle of nature or reason can we account for a wicked man persecuting a humble follower of God because of his religion. The devil hates godliness; and the wicked man hates it also because the devil is in his heart.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2The wicked in his pride - Margin: “In the pride of the wicked he doth.” The margin is a literal translation of the Hebrew; but the sense is the same. The meaning is, that the fact that the wicked persecuted the poor, in the case referred to, was to be traced to his pride, haughtiness, ambition; that is, in pursuing his own selfish and ambitious purposes, he became utterly regardless of the rights and comforts of others. He esteemed their interest and…Read the comment
