Context of Numbers 18:26
24But the tithe of the Israelites, which they present as an offering to the Lord, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I have said to them, ‘They shall have no inheritance among the children of Israel.’ ” 25Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Moreover, you shall speak to the Levites and say to them, ‘When you take from the Israelites the tithe which I have given to you from them as your inheritance, then you shall present an offering from it to the Lord, a tithe of the tithe [paid by the people]. 27Your offering shall be credited to you as the grain from the threshing floor or as the full produce from the wine vat. 28Likewise you shall also present an offering to the Lord from all your tithes, which you receive from the Israelites; and from it you shall give the Lord’s offering to Aaron the priest.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 20-32Verses 20-32 As Israel was a people not to be numbered among the nations, so Levi was a tribe to be distinguished from the rest. Those who have God for their Inheritance and their Portion for ever, ought to look with holy contempt and indifference upon the possessions of this world. The Levites were to give God his dues out of their tithes, as well as the Israelites out of their increase. See, in ver. #(31), the way to have comfort in all our worldly…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 25-32The Levites received a tithe (one-tenth) of the goods of the Israelites (18:24). However, they were not allowed to keep all of it. They also had to give a tithe of that tithe, which means one-tenth of the one-tenth. They gave this portion to the priests as their own harvest offering (18:27).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2626. the Levites ... offer ... a tenth of the tithe--Out of their own they were to pay tithes to the priests equally as the people gave to them. The best of their tithes was to be assigned to the priests, and afterwards they enjoyed the same liberty to make use of the remainder that other Israelites had of the produce of their threshing-floors and wine-presses.Read the comment
