Context of Leviticus 6:23
21It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle. When it is well stirred, you shall bring it. You shall present the grain offering in baked pieces as a sweet and soothing aroma to the Lord. 22The priest from among the sons of Aaron who is anointed in his place shall offer it. By a permanent statute it shall be entirely offered up in smoke to the Lord. So every grain offering of the priest shall be burned entirely. It shall not be eaten.” 24Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 25“Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the law of the sin offering: the sin offering shall be killed before the Lord in the [same] place where the burnt offering is killed; it is most holy.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 23For every meat-offering for the priest shall be wholly burnt - Whatever the priest offered was wholly the Lord's, and therefore must be entirely consumed: the sacrifices of the common people were offered to the Lord, but the priests partook of them; and thus they who ministered at the altar were fed by the altar. Had the priests been permitted to live on their own offerings as they did on those of the people, it would have been as if they had offered…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-23Verses 14-23 The law of the burnt-offerings put upon the priests a great deal of care and work; the flesh was wholly burnt, and the priests had nothing but the skin. But most of the meat-offering was their own. It is God's will that his ministers should be provided with what is needful.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 23Normally, most of a grain offering went to the priest who led the ceremony (Leviticus 2:9–10). But the grain offering in 6:19–23 was for a special event, the ordination of the priests. Ordination means setting apart the priests for their service to the Lord. This offering had to be burned completely and not eaten.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 19-2320. This is the offering of Aaron, and of his sons--the daily meat offering of the high priest; for though his sons are mentioned along with him, it was probably only those of his descendants who succeeded him in that high office that are meant. It was to be offered, one half of it in the morning and the other half in the evening--being daily laid by the ministering priest on the altar of burnt offering, where, being dedicated to God, it was wholly…Read the comment
