Context of Deuteronomy 30:5
3then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes [in your return from exile], and have compassion on you, and will gather you together again from all the peoples (nations) where He has scattered you. 4Even if any of your dispersed are at the ends of the earth, the Lord your God will gather you together from there, and from there He will bring you back. The Lord your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it; and He shall make you prosper and multiply—even more than your fathers. 6“And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the hearts of your descendants [that is, He will remove the desire to sin from your heart], so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul, so that you may live [as a recipient of His blessing]. 7The Lord your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who have persecuted you.

Commentaries on Deuteronomy 30:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Will bring thee into the land - As this promise refers to a return from a captivity in which they had been scattered among all nations, consequently it is not the Babylonish captivity which is intended; and the repossession of their land must be different from that which was consequent on their return from Chaldea.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1-10Verses 1-10 The rejection of Israel and the desolation of the promised inheritance were not to be the end of God‘s dispensations. The closing words of the address therefore are words of comfort and promise. Compare marginal reference and Deuteronomy 4:29 ff; 1 Kings 8:46-50. The chastisements of God would lead the nation to repent, and thereupon God would again bless them. Deuteronomy 30:3 Will turn thy captivity - Will change or put an end to thy state…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-10Repentance was the only solution to the threat of judgment. The possibility of blessing and the prevention of judgment both depended on a proper relationship with the Lord.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-101-10. when all these things are come upon thee, ... and thou shalt return ... then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity--The hopes of the Hebrew people are ardently directed to this promise, and they confidently expect that God, commiserating their forlorn and fallen condition, will yet rescue them from all the evils of their long dispersion. They do not consider the promise as fulfilled by their restoration from the captivity in Babylon, for Israel…Read the comment
