Context of 1 Kings 6:12
10Then he built the extensions [of rooms] against the entire house, each [story] five cubits high; and they were attached to the house with timbers of cedar. 11Now the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying, “Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes and execute My precepts and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will carry out My word (promises) with you which I made to David your father. 13I will dwell among the sons (descendants) of Israel, and will not abandon My people Israel.” 14So Solomon built the house (temple) and finished it.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12The meaning is, “So far as this house goes, thou art obedient (2 Samuel 7:13; 1 Chronicles 17:12, etc.); if thou wilt be obedient in other things also, then will I perform My word,” etc., God‘s promises being always conditional. The condition on which that…Read the comment
