Context of Psalms 59:17
15They return at evening, snarling like a dog, prowling about the city. 16They wander around for food. If they are not full, they stay up all night. But I—I sing of Your strength! Yes, in the morning I sing aloud of Your lovingkindness. For You have been my fortress, a refuge in the day of my trouble. 18O my strength, to You I sing praises. For God is my strong tower— my God of lovingkindness.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 17Unto thee, O my strength - A similar sentiment to that expressed, Psalm 59:9. But the words are very emphatic: God is my strength; God is my elevation. My God is my mercy. I have nothing good but what I have from God. And all springs from his dwelling in me. God, therefore, shall have all the glory, both now and for ever. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-17Verses 8-17 It is our wisdom and duty, in times of danger and difficulty, to wait upon God; for he is our defence, in whom we shall be safe. It is very comfortable to us, in prayer, to look to God as the God of our mercy, the Author of all good in us, and the Giver of all good to us. The wicked can never be satisfied, which is the greatest misery in a poor condition. A contented man, if he has not what he would have, yet he does not quarrel with…Read the comment
