Context of Leviticus 6:8
6Fire is to be kept burning on the altar continually—it must not go out. 7“Now this is the Torah of the grain offering. Aaron’s sons are to offer it to Adonai in front of the altar. So he is to lift up from it his handful of the fine flour of the grain offering, with some of its oil and all the frankincense which is on the grain offering, and burn it up as smoke on the altar for a soothing aroma, as its memorial portion to Adonai. 9Then what is left from it Aaron and his sons are to eat. It is to be eaten as matzah in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. 10It must not be baked with hametz. I have given it as their portion of My offerings made by fire. It is most holy, like the sin offering and like the trespass offering.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8And the Lord spake unto Moses - At this verse the Jews begin the 25th section of the law; and here, undoubtedly, the 6th chapter should commence, as the writer enters upon a new subject, and the preceding verses belong to the fifth chapter. The best edited Hebrew Bibles begin the 6th chapter at this verse.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-13Verses 8-13 The daily sacrifice of a lamb is chiefly referred to. The priest must take care of the fire upon the altar. The first fire upon the altar came from heaven, ch. 9:24; by keeping that up continually, all their sacrifices might be said to be consumed with the fire from heaven, in token of God's acceptance. Thus should the fire of our holy affections, the exercise of our faith and love, of prayer and praise, be without ceasing.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-13The regulations in Leviticus 1:2–6:7 include instructions for both priests and ordinary Israelites. This section details the rights and duties of the priest who led the offerings. The tribe of Levi received no land for farming (Deuteronomy 18:1; Joshua 13:14, 33). Priests relied on offerings for their income. These rules made sure the priests were properly provided for. Like many human systems, the offering system was later abused (1 Samuel 2:12–25; Hosea…Read the comment

The daily service consisted of two lambs, one offered in the morning at sunrise, the other in the evening, when the day began to decline. Both of them were consumed on the altar by means of a slow…Read the comment
